[Mulawin] 12/10/2004 01:55:25 PM

I read today in The Philippine Star that Mulawin will “reach its climax” soon. This came to me as a surprise but I remembered a few things:

1) The Say Cheeze!. There are only 7-8 collectible cards of Mulawin characters there, and one is featured every week. I think it’s safe to assume that this promo will end as the show itself brings down the curtain. Well, we’re in the 3rd week now of the promo (featuring Rasmus – previous ones were Aguiluz and Bagwis). So the promo will be featuring its last sometime in mid or late January 2005. Maybe that’s when the show will close?

2) If the show lasts up to and including January ’05, that adds up to 6 months. It had begun airing in August. That’s 2 seasons. There has been no definite report yet that the cast has signed up for a new season.

3) The article in said newspaper hinted that Pagaspas’ transformation (which went wrong) would have “significant impact’ in the story. My guess is that this involves Vultra and possibly, her meeting with Bagwis. Tuka said that only the Ravena queen could reverse the effects of that potion on Pagaspas. (So what other powers does she have? I wish they would explain before the show ends, why she is the one with all these abilities.)

And as events unfold in the show, I think it’s clear that more meetings and revelations will take place. I feel that Gabriel will meet Aguiluz and Alwina soon. He’ll give her the green binhi, and he and Aguiluz can finally change clothes thanks to Estrella’s gift. Bagwis will probably encounter Vultra and Rasmus will go nuts. Savannah’s lies will finally be exposed. The citizens of Tierra Fuego will launch their revolt. Habagat will defect and be reconciled to his brother. Aguiluz’s mother will appear again and connect the dots, telling him about how and why his father died and about the Sugo. And somehow, somehow, the amazing map of the Mulawin world will bring these scattered characters together for the final battle. Ravenum will show himself in his most powerful form. Maybe only he and Rasmus and Perena will be left in the side of evil. Maybe Lourdes’ dream will come true, in a modified way (i.e. in more episodes, not 2 shots). Maybe Aviona will return as an angel or savior.

Hehehe… well, it’s all just a guess. What do you think?

P.S. Big hole in the plot. So Habagat’s flashback makes it plain that he fell in love with Linang only after the Bagwis-Veronica-Rasmus affair. That means the Hiyas Na Walang Kupas was stolen less than 20 years ago. But the Scouts had been lost in the woods for 50-60 years. IMO, the weakest part of the whole series was the time when Alwina died and Aguiluz wandered to Pugad Lawin. That’s when the Perico and the story of the Hiyas and Scouts was inserted. That was difficult to piece together and I don’t blame the writers for this hole in the plot. They had to think of something fast since GMA 7 had decided to extend the show. It was made “on the fly.”
